I’m more than a little annoyed that the Highways Agency is busy repairing a long section of the hard shoulder of the M5 near Droitwich, but is doing nothing to lay a noise reducing surface and so lessen the misery of local people. After all our protests you would have thought they could have kept their promise at last and resurfaced the road itself too.

The plans for the future of the Brine Baths are being debated well and constructively in the town and that’s good news. I am sure that there is huge recreational potential for a spa complex around a good brine pool and I think I will be able to take the plunge in a new pool before too long. I hope my optimism is well founded!

There’s been concern and outrage in Worcestershire about the takeover of Cadbury’s by Kraft.

I chair the Commons Business, Innovation and Skills committee and we have invited Kraft to come before us next month and explain their plans in public and on the record. They seemed to suggest to the workers at the factory near Bristol that their jobs would be saved, but then they went ahead with the closure.

Inevitably this kind of change of heart worries people who work for Cadbury’s elsewhere, or who supply it. I hope our public evidence session – when I know some tough questions will be asked, will get some definitive answers out of the management of Kraft.

Finally, do remember that the latest stage in consultation on the so-called South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy is underway. This strategy will determine where the new houses the government says we must build will go. I still hope a new government will soon enable us to cut the total numbers but until then, please get involved if you have views!
