Arricle for the Droitwich Advertiser on Armed Forces Day
First, I must say a big thank you to the Advertiser for this new opportunity to report back to my constituents. And thereís a lot to say!

I was honoured to be appointed Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology in the new Government and I will work extremely hard to ensure that our troops have the best equipment and support available to them at all times.

Itís an especially important role with our armed forces deeply engaged in Afghanistan and with a strategic defence and security review taking place at a time of serious financial challenges. I know from the magnificent turnout in Droitwich town centre every Remembrance Day just how much the armed services mean to local people.

Now there is a second day on which the nation shows its respect and Armed Forces Day last weekend was a great opportunity to recognise the brave work that our troops are doing for us out in Afghanistan and around the world. I was thinking particularly of the men and women from the Mercian Regiment, who are on active service in Helmand, and who suffered three more tragic fatalities last week. It is important to remember that the streets of Worcestershire are safer because of what they are doing on our behalf.

I may have an important national job to do, but, as your MP, I will still be championing your concerns.

On Fridays and at weekends I will be here in Worcestershire, just as I always have been, working for my constituents. I represent everybody to the best of my ability, irrespective of Party or whether or not you voted and I will carry on doing everything I can to support individuals and communities and to be a conscientious local Member of Parliament.
