Apprenticeship opportunities
Article

Hereís some really good news. Apprenticeships are a great way to help people get the skills they need to make a better future for themselves and so it is really encouraging that last year in Mid Worcestershire alone, 840 people started an apprenticeship, writes Peter Luff MP.

Since the last government, the number of people starting apprenticeships in Mid Worcestershire has increased by 410, which means a rise of 95% - a staggering figure.

Across England, this government has delivered a record number of apprenticeships, with over half a million people starting an apprenticeship last year and, thanks to the Governmentís investment, 142 more young people are starting an apprenticeship every single day.

The government believes that apprenticeships provide the perfect gateway into many careers, in the traditional manufacturing and engineering areas many more as well. Thatís why they are taking steps to ensure that the number of people taking up apprenticeships continues to rise.

Cash bonuses are being introduced for small companies taking on young apprentices and it is being made quicker and easier for employers to take on an apprentice by cutting bureaucracy and red tape that so often gets in the way.

Apprenticeship providers are now also required to offer all apprentices teaching in English and Maths up to the standard of a good GCSE. This ensures that all apprentices are equipped with skills that they can use and build on in the future.

I want many more local people in the Droitwich area to have the chance as an apprentice to earn and learn at the same time. I urge everyone to think about whether they can benefit from the many apprenticeship opportunities that are now available. And I thank all the local employers who have made this welcome increase possible.
