Christmas Message - Droitwich Advertiser

The greatest thing about Christmas, we are often reminded, is that itís a time for family and friends to come together. People my joke about the arrival of the in-laws, but these reunions are usually very special.
Sadly this year, more families will be coming together with the financial problems weighing heavily on their minds, and for many people Christmas will be marred by this unbearable strain. My thoughts are with all those suffering because of the economic downturn.

I and my fellow politicians must do all we can to get the economy back on track, to help make businesses prosperous again, creating and saving jobs, and so to ensure next Christmas is not spoiled by these worries. That will be my number one priority for the New Year.

But there is something else that will be on my mind this Christmas. Each year, MPs are drawn by ballot for a Private Membersí Bill Ė a chance to introduce legislation on a topic of the MPís choosing.†

This year, my name came up, so over Christmas I will be giving serious thought to what issue I should pursue. Suggestions are welcome!†

Even in these difficult times, we have much to be thankful for, so, please, have a very Happy Christmas.
