The Government’s introduction of a new Royal Charter for the press
Email Campaign

I firmly believe that what happened to the Dowlers, to the McCanns, to Christopher Jefferies and to many other innocent people who have never sought the limelight was utterly despicable. It is therefore absolutely right that we put in place a new system of press regulation to ensure that such appalling things do not happen again.

The Government is committed to implementing a tough new system of press self-regulation and a Royal Charter with cross party agreement was concluded on the 18th March.

The press petitioned the Privy Council Office with a Royal Charter of their own which is being considered to ensure that the process of implementing Leveson is robust. No final decisions or conclusions have yet been reached.
