NEW CALL FOR ACTION ON M5 NOISE

It’s time for the Highways Agency to bring forward a definitive timetable for the resurfacing of the M5 and so to reduce the noise misery for hundreds of families, says Mid Worcestershire MP Peter Luff.

In a letter to Graham Dalton, Chief Executive of the Highways Agency, Peter writes,

“As you will see from previous correspondence there are unacceptable noise levels between junctions 7-4a, and your clarification of a work timetable would be enormously helpful.”

Commenting, Peter said,

“My last correspondence with the agency was nearly two years ago now. Their previous promises before then – to replace the surface in 2006/7 - were comprehensively broken and I intend to maintain the pressure on them until a new noise-reducing surface is laid.

“Two years ago I was told that their programme was being reviewed to prioritise expenditure up to 2010-11. This implied a solution was possible before then. We all know that public spending is under huge pressure now so we need to be very vocal indeed in demanding this injustice is addressed.

“Although the largest number of affected families is in Droitwich itself, there are also far too many homes between Whittington and Wychbold suffering from totally unacceptable noise levels. It’s time for them all to be able to sleep at night! It’s time for us all to make a noise to ensure our noise problems are sorted out at last.”
