“WHY THE DELAY TO SCHOOL FUNDING CHANGES?” ASKS LUFF

In the Commons today, Thursday, Mid Worcestershire MP Peter Luff urged the government not to delay any longer the consultation it promised to begin last month on how to change the school funding arrangements. The current arrangements have been criticised widely for discriminating against Worcestershire schools.
Peter explained,

The government had said that it would publish a consultation document during January, but a month later, nothing has emerged. We just can’t afford to wait for this vital work – there is no excuse for this foot-dragging.”

During questions to the Leader of the House, Harriett Harman, Peter asked

“The Leader of the House will know that the schools funding formula discriminates seriously against counties such as Worcestershire. May we have an urgent statement on the reasons for the delay in the publication of the consultation document on the funding formula review, which was expected last month?”

Peter commented,

“In her reply, Harriet Harman: said she would ask Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families to write to me to explain what is going on. This is progress of a sort, but what we need is the consultation document - and then early change to end the wicked discrimination against local school children that has been getting worse year after year.”
