TEAR UP THE REGIONAL PLAN, LUFF URGES

In his first letter to a minister in the new government, Mid Worcestershire MP Peter Luff has urged Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, to save South Worcestershire from overdevelopment.
In his letter to the minister, Peter writes

“My first request is a simple one – please reassure me that the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy gets torn up this week or next!

“It will mean so much to South Worcestershire if you can confirm this.”

Commenting, Peter said,

“One of the best things to come out of the election for our county is the prospect that rule from Birmingham and Whitehall will end in so many policy areas, with local people given power once again.

“It was a clear manifesto commitment that the Conservative Party would introduce a bottom-up planning system, giving power to local communities and councils to decide how much housing they needed and where it should go.

“Of course we need more new homes locally to cope with an ageing population and the demand for affordable housing, but nowhere near as many as the last government sought to impose on us through the regional spatial strategy.

“It’s time to end the threat to so many South Worcestershire communities and tear up the regional plan!”
