VILLAGE CELEBRATES AS SHOP REOPENS

A village shop that closed in January was officially reopened by Mid Worcestershire MP Peter Luff yesterday (Friday) to cheers from local people.

Flyford Flavell stores that had been owned and run by Mike and Leena Sheppard closed in January, but now Bridget Jewell, who used to work in the shop, has taken a lease on the premises and reopened it.

Peter Luff had worked closely with the Sheppards over many years on issues facing village shops and post offices and was on hand earlier in the year to mark the closure.

Speaking after cutting the ribbon to reopen the shop he said,

“It was really wonderful to see the village come out again only four months later to celebrate such a happy occasion. The Sheppards did so much for Flyford Flavell, but they had earned their retirement.

“Bridget is also a much loved figure in the village and I am sure the community will rally behind her and use the stores as enthusiastically as they did until this January.

“At a time when so many villages are losing their facilities – pubs, garages, shops – it’s great to see Flyford Flavell buck the trend and get its shop back.”
