UNEMPLOYMENT FALLS IN MID WORCESTERSHIRE

The number of people unemployed in Mid Worcestershire fell by 1,019 last month, according to new figures released today from the Office of National Statistics.

The figures are based on the number of people claiming out of work benefits. The number of claimants for Mid Worcestershire is 444 lower than in September 2012 and 66 lower than in August 2013. It has fallen by a third since the last election, from 3.2% of the population to 2.1% now.

The MP for Mid Worcestershire, Peter Luff said,

“These figures are very welcome. In fact, across the whole of West Midlands, unemployment is down by 14,000 in the last quarter.

“Although we still have a way to go to put Britain firmly on the road of the recovery, this further fall in local unemployment is excellent news.

“There are now more people in work than ever before with the rise being driven by growth in full-time and permanent jobs in the private sector. That’s a really positive sign of growth in the UK economy, and a credit to British businesses for creating those jobs.”
