MP TO MEET VALE WINDFARM COMPANY

Peter Luff is set to meet the promoters of a proposed windfarm for the Lenches and Lenchwick area on Tuesday.

The MP will meet Scottish Power in his Commons office to discuss the proposal.

Commenting, Peter said,

"I have serious concerns about this location for a sizeable windfarm with up to ten turbines each standing nearly half as high again as Big Ben.

"The company needs to provide a lot more detail to me and to local people before we can take a definite view, but I will take a lot of persuading that this is the right place.

"I am in touch with the five parish councils most directly affected - Church Lench, Norton& Lenchwick, Harvington, Bishampton and Hill & Moor - and all of them appear to share my deep reservations about the project, but they also feel they need more hard facts before they can decide.

"It wouldn't be right for me to reach a definite view until we have answers to all the questions from the promoters and until the five parish councils have been able to reach firm and considered conclusions. I can say that the letters I am receiving are running about nine to one against the project, and I understand why.

"We need more renewable energy - but it must come from the right sources in the right places. Wind has a big part to play, but is this area the right place? Somehow, I doubt it. I will be fascinated to see what Scottish Power have to say for themselves."
