SPA NOT A SPA WITHOUT BRINE BATH SAYS MP

“Droitwich Spa needs its brine bath back as soon as possible”, says the town’s MP, Peter Luff.
Peter responded to growing concern about the future of the town’s much loved brine bath by talking to the operators and seeking reassurance about the bath’s future.

Commenting, Peter said,

“The importance of the brine bath goes well beyond its great value to those who use it for therapeutic and recreational purposes. It is a potent symbol of the very reason for the town’s existence – salt.

“I am clear the operators understand this. I am encouraged to learn that the brine is as pure as ever and that the building is structurally sound. It does seem, though, that the mechanical and electrical systems are going to be difficult and expensive to put back in full operational order quickly.

“I have been reassured that an action plan is being put together and that the facility will re-open, but I have explained to BMI Healthcare, who have the lease on the facility, that there is growing concern about the time it is all taking.

“Droitwich Spa is not really a Spa without the brine bath – it still uses the natural brine water that is a vital part of the town’s heritage.

“We must have some further patience as they assess exactly what needs to be done to get it open again, but we cannot expect the people who use and value the bath to be patient for too much longer. We do need to have a target date for the re-opening soon, and I will be reminding BMI of this if necessary – and regularly if I have to!”
