Peter Luff made this statement on the death of Lord Walker earlier today after a long battle with cancer
Peter Walker was a remarkable politician by any standards. He played a central role in the governments of both Ted Heath and Margaret Thatcher. He was the first ever Environment Secretary and had many other jobs in cabinet over many years - but he always put his constituents at the centre of his work.

Peter loved Worcestershire and the place he always described as the Faithful City.

His energy and commitment were phenomenal and those of us who were privileged to know him were inspired by his example.

He fought bravely against his illness for many months and our thoughts must now be with his family and above all with his wife Tessa.

I am just pleased that, before he died, had the great comfort of seeing his son Robin elected to serve the city he loved.
