People who want to influence the way South Worcestershire will look and where new homes will be built and jobs created are being urged to speak out.

Mid Worcestershire MP Peter Luff said that the consultation on the South Worcestershire Development Plan, which is about to begin, was “a one-off opportunity to make sure local views are heard loud and clear by planners.”
The eight-week public consultation on the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) gets underway on 26 September.  The plan – currently at a draft stage called the Preferred Options – will guide economic, residential and environmental change in the area until 2030.  There will be roadshow events across South Worcestershire. Residents will be able to get hold of copies of the proposed options at libraries, any of the councils’ offices and community contact centres as well as at the roadshows.
Peter explained,
“When it is finished the Plan will settle all the big questions about where houses and factories will be built and which land is protected from development.  It could not be more important for our quality of life and our economy.
“When previous plans were being developed I heard local people say they were never consulted – well here’s their chance now. Between now and the end of November people in Wychavon and in Worcester City and Malvern Hills – have their chance to have their say and they must seize it.  This is what democracy is all about.
“The three councils are going out of their way to consult and the local roadshow events will be an invaluable opportunity to get you vision for South Worcestershire across to people who can do something about it.”
